DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION TRAVEL AWARDS FOR SARMAC XV IN KILDARE, 2025
Congratulations to our 2023 recipients!
SARMAC is committed to fostering the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion within our community, and we are dedicated to removing barriers that that have been historically encountered and are currently experienced by some members of our society. We believe that the diversity of our researchers will serve as a strength of SARMAC and a benefit to society.
For the SARMAC XIV conference in Nagoya, Japan, the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion (CoDI) offered Diversity and Inclusion Travel Awards that fully covered the expenses of four members to attend (see here). In preparation for SARMAC XV, we surveyed SARMAC membership, who expressed an overwhelming preference for the award to provide partial support for more members.
We are therefore excited to announce that we will be offering a minimum of 10 awards to help researchers from all backgrounds and geographic locations attend SARMAC XV in Kildare, Ireland, to present their work. We welcome and encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, racialised persons, visible minorities, women, persons with disabilities, sexual and gender minorities, and members of all underrepresented groups who lack funding opportunities to support their participation at SARMAC.
Based on a recent survey, SARMAC members indicated overwhelming preference (87%) for the Diversity and Inclusion Travel Awards to provide partial attendance support that considers the location of the recipient. Therefore, the award for SARMAC XV will cover the conference fees (at the Student/Full Member early-bird rate) and 50% of either travel or accommodation expenses (based on applicant’s preference). The maximum value of each award will be US$1200.
The value of the awards will depend on the estimated budget and the financial need of the applicant.
